Choosing Your Wedding Flowers

Wedding FlowersWedding flowers are a very important part of any wedding decorations because they bring together the beauty and colors that are represented at the event. Many couples choose to go with a traditional look that predominately feature roses, but there are several varieties of flowers available that are considered appropriate. Regardless of what type of flowers you want and what colors you choose, there are a few important things to keep in mind when choosing your wedding flowers.

Budget

Keeping your overall costs in check is crucial for every purchase you make while planning your wedding, but flowers can get very expensive in a big hurry. For this reason, you need to plan out the costs of your wedding flowers very carefully before you begin purchasing. You’ll need to consider all the places you want flowers including as centerpieces on your reception tables and the bouquet you’ll be throwing after your ceremony. Once you know how much you have to spend and all the total amount of flowers you need to buy, you can accurately keep the cost within your budget.

Florist

Choosing which florist you want to use is another important part of the flower buying process. First of all, you want to make sure that you choose a company that is local to where your wedding is going to be to ensure that you get the freshest flowers possible. Also, you’ll want to make sure the reputation of the florist is good in that area so that you have high quality service. Finally, you’ll want to make sure that the florist you choose is the best value in that area. Most cities have more than one florist, so visiting all the shops in that area to ask questions and get pricing information is a really great way to make sure you are getting the best bang for your buck. Don’t be afraid to ask for some photos of their previous work or even some referrals; after all you will be spending a sizeable amount of money for their services.

Stay Area and Season-Specific

When selecting the colors and varieties you want for your wedding flowers, make sure you consider the area surrounding your ceremony and reception location along with the time of year. Integrating flowers that are found locally can be a great way to save some money since they are usually cheaper, but they also give a very local-feel to the event which can make it even more memorable. Furthermore, choosing flowers that represent the current season will also make things feel more welcoming to your guests. If you are having a winter wedding, for example, you may want to have white and light blue flowers to blend with nature. If you are having a spring wedding, on the other hand, you can get away with bright flowers like yellow or orange to make the event really “pop”.

Just match up the colors as best as you can to give your guests the most enchanting experience possible and it is sure to make your own experience even better.

5 Basic Reception Table Decoration Tips

Edible ArrangementsRegardless of what type or theme you are aiming for at your wedding reception, table decorations are certain to play a major role in the overall look. The point of having decorations on your reception tables is to engage your guests and bring them into the event by making them part of the celebration. Without the table decorations, they would look bare and out of place in the midst of all the other items that adorn your reception hall. Making your tables look both festive and inviting is essential to bringing the entire event together, and sometimes you can even have your table decorations double as wedding favors. We will look at 5 basic reception table decoration tips that should help give you some ideas that will hopefully lead to the decorations of your dreams.

Follow Your Wedding Theme

Most of the time, a bride will come up with an over-arching theme that they want to be reflected in their wedding decorations. By considering the basic theme and colors you will be using for the rest of your decorations, you can get some guidance to help you select you table decorations.

Keep Your Design Elemental

Keeping your decorations simple is a great way to make your guests interested. Sticking with the basic elements such as fire, water, and earth is a great way to keep things as simple as possible. Candles, flowers, and items that float are all great choices for basic centerpieces that stay within this theme.

Disposable Cameras

Though most people have cameras on their phones or will be bringing a quality digital camera along to the reception to get high quality photos, you may want to have a certain amount of the photos stay at the hall. Disposable cameras are a great way to do this, and are also a fun “throwback” item your guests will appreciate. Basically, you leave a disposable camera on each table, your guests use up all the shots, and you can drop them off at the photo shack to develop the candid memories your guests creatively gathered for you.

Use a Variety of Vases

Variety is the spice of life, so why not have that represented when starting yours with the person you love? Rather than having the same size and colors for all your vases and centerpieces that you put on your reception tables, change things up to present a more dynamic look. Having different heights for your vases will create an abstract look that your guests will enjoy much more than staying uniform across the entire board.

Use Edible Table Arrangements

People enjoy looking at beautiful pieces of art, but it only gets better if you are also able to eat them! Edible arrangements are essentially what they sound like; groupings of items that look fantastic sitting on a table that your guests can also enjoy eating. These types of table decorations have really grown in popularity in recent years, and there are several different varieties from which to choose.

Fruit arrangements are one of the most popular choices, and are also one of the more health-smart options out there. The only thing to keep in mind with fruit is that it can look unappealing after a period of time, so you want to make sure it’s fresh. Also, not all types of fruit will work for a table arrangement, so make sure you consult someone who knows what they are talking about.

The other top choice for edible arrangements is to make them out of candy. Candy has the benefit of staying good for a very long time, but it also comes in a virtually unlimited amount of shape, size, and color options to give the designer a virtually unlimited spectrum. The downside is that candy is very unhealthy, and guests with health issues such as diabetes may not be able to indulge in the feast that is your edible arrangements.

Asian-Themed Wedding Decorations

Paper LanternsAs one of the largest cultures in the world, the vast majority of people on Earth are from Asian descent. This also means that there are more Asian-themed weddings than any other type, so there is obviously a huge selection of wedding decorations available specifically for this purpose. Though it is important to refrain from being too obvious and tacky with your Asian style wedding decorations, there are a few classic items that should be represented to make it obvious that the theme you are going after is Asian. Below, I will discuss three of the most popular and common types of decorations that every Asian-themed wedding should include.

Paper Lanterns

Almost everyone is familiar with paper lanterns and the sheer beauty they offer to and wedding. Besides just being a staple item at Asian-themed weddings, paper lanterns have transcended the culture gap to become a popular wedding decoration at all types of weddings. Available in several shapes such as round, cubes, and tall cylinders, paper lanterns are usually hung from the ceiling with a small light inside to act as both a source of illumination as well as beauty. They work particularly well outside, but can also be used indoors.

Bamboo Items

Bamboo is another material that just screams Asian culture. If you visit any country in Asia, you would immediately notice that bamboo is the primary building material for anything constructed out of wood. While bamboo is incredibly strong, it is also instantly recognizable with a very elegant look. Bamboo can make a great decoration at a wedding as many different items including place card holders, beverage coasters, or “lucky bamboo” plants to be used as centerpieces. There is virtually an unlimited amount of bamboo wedding decorations available, so check with your favorite vendor for a complete selection.

Paper Parasols

Another paper item that is perfect for an Asian-themed wedding is parasols. Paper parasols are essentially decorative umbrellas that are usually made from rice paper. Paper parasols are a great way to add that Asian “vide” to any space because they are easy to fit anywhere and are very affordable. Much like the paper lanterns, you can also hang some paper parasols from the ceiling and even hang them upside-down with some backlighting for an even more enchanting effect. If you want to pair up your decorations to create a fun theme across the board, you can also get miniature parasols to put into your guests drinks; which are a very popular item in tropical regions.

Simple Table Decorations

Simple Table DecorationsDecorating your reception tables is a great way to make the entire room give off the vibe and portray the theme you want your guests to enjoy. However, while it may seem as simple as putting on some tablecloths and adding a few items straight out of the box, making your reception tables look both beautiful and elegant can be more challenging than you might expect. Fortunately, there are tons of simple table decorations that can take your reception tables from drab to fab without very much effort or money.

Below, I have made a list of some of my favorite table decorations to help give you ideas. Remember, table decorations go way beyond just putting centerpieces on your table and calling it good, you need to put some thought into the process and have the various decorations combine to make something unique and memorable for you and your guests to be completely immersed into the event.

Gem Scatters

Many people are familiar with dragon tears, and gem scatters are pretty much the same concept. There are several different shapes available including the classic round bead shapes, pearls, diamonds, jewels, and even sphere shapes in a whole plethora of colors to accent any design. Gem scatters work best when they are placed directly on the tablecloth around the base of the centerpieces, but they also look great in the centerpiece’s vase itself. This can also add some weight to the tablecloth or centerpieces, which can be vital if your reception is outdoors and wind is a possible factor.

Rose Petals

Rose petals are another one of those items that immediately make you think of romance, so why not sprinkle a few on your tables? Rose petals are available in both organic and synthetic varieties, plus they have the huge advantage of being available in virtually any color you can imagine. You can even fin your rose petals in two-tone color schemes such as yellow with a red accent or whatever other variation you like. You can use these in the same way you use gem scatters as an accent to the base of your centerpieces, but they look the best when you use a combination of the two table decorations.

Tea Light Holders

Tea lights are a great way to add ambiance to your wedding reception by placing some small votive candles in each to create some elegant mood lighting. However, many of the traditional tea light holders you see will be metallic or very style neutral, which can be a drag on your other color palettes that are spread throughout your reception space. Fortunately, you can get gall tea light holders that are made from glass in virtually any color you can think of including pink, red, purple, green, blue, and pretty much any other color your color scheme calls for. Tea light holders can work great as a standalone centerpiece, but they also look great when you alternate between your fancy centerpieces and the elegant teat light holders. This technique also breaks up any monotony that your other table decorations may be creating, and choosing a bold color for your tea light holders can create a dramatic effect as your votive candles are flickering.
